About

New York City, a city renowned for its diversity and dynamic energy, faces an ongoing challenge in ensuring the safety and security of its inhabitants. In this project, we conducted a comprehensive examination of safety in New York City through an in-depth analysis of NYPD complaint data spanning the years 2006 to 2019. The analysis will be intricately divided into three distinct layers, focusing on crime events, suspects/victims, and socioeconomic indicators. The primary objective is to discern patterns, trends, and correlations within these layers, with the ultimate goal of informing enhanced safety measures and refining law enforcement strategies.

Data Set

Our primary data source is the NYPD Historic Complaint Data.

The original dataset is available at NYPD Complaint Data Historic.

Our supplementary dataset is the NYC Full Neighborhood Indicators from NYU Furman Center

Additionally, our processed and filtered dataset is accessible through Dropbox.
